Zarif Reveals Mossad Planted Explosives in Iran’s Nuclear Equipment

By The Media Line Staff

Israel covertly sabotaged Iran’s nuclear program by supplying centrifuge platforms rigged with explosives, a revelation confirmed for the first time by senior Iranian official Mohammad Javad Zarif. Zarif, Iran’s former foreign minister and now vice president for strategic affairs under reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian, disclosed the infiltration in an interview with an Iranian media outlet. His comments aimed to explain to Iran’s public the persistent threats to its nuclear ambitions, especially under strict Western sanctions.

Zarif revealed that Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization unknowingly acquired centrifuge platforms embedded with explosives, a sophisticated act of sabotage attributed to Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency. “For instance, our friends at the Atomic Energy Organization [of Iran] had purchased a platform for centrifuges in which [the Israelis] had installed explosive material,” Zarif said. He attributed the vulnerability to sanctions forcing Iran to use unreliable third-party suppliers.

This acknowledgment corroborates previous reports about Israel’s involvement in attacks on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility. In 2020 and 2021, explosions damaged critical components of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, incidents Iran has long blamed on Israel. Former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen indirectly confirmed the agency’s role, stating Israeli operatives delivered explosive-laden equipment to Iran.

These disclosures surface at a tense moment in the Middle East. Israel has conducted recent strikes against Iran during its war with Hamas in Gaza. Iran, meanwhile, has significantly advanced its nuclear program after the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement under former President Donald Trump. Tehran is now enriching uranium closer to weapons-grade levels, raising alarms in Israel and the West about the potential for Iran to develop a nuclear weapon.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed these concerns in a recent NBC News interview, expressing willingness for dialogue but criticizing Western nations for failing to honor agreements. “We upheld all the commitments that we had to commit to. But unfortunately, it was the other party that did not live up to its promises and obligations,” Pezeshkian stated.

Israel, along with both President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump, has warned Iran against obtaining a nuclear weapon. Speculation about a possible preemptive Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear sites persists, echoing past Israeli actions in Iraq and Syria. Pezeshkian responded to such threats by saying, “We do not fear war, but we don’t seek it.”
