Israeli Hostages Emily Damari, Doron Steinbrecher, and Romi Gonen Released as Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Deal Takes Effect
By The Media Line Staff
Three female hostages, including British-Israeli citizen Emily Damari, Romanian-Israeli Doron Steinbrecher, and Israeli national Romi Gonen, have been released as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The initial phase of the deal, which began on Sunday, involves the release of 33 hostages over six weeks in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, humanitarian aid, and an Israeli military withdrawal from some areas in Gaza.
Damari, 28, was abducted from her Kfar Aza home during Hamas’s violent October 7, 2023, incursion. Her mother, Mandy, shared the harrowing details, revealing that Damari was shot, injured by shrapnel, and taken to Gaza after terrorists killed her dog. Mandy has tirelessly campaigned for her daughter’s release and credited US President-elect Donald Trump for helping broker the ceasefire. “President-elect Donald Trump, you have really made my dreams come true,” she told The Daily Mail, adding, “My nightmare is still going on until I see Emily and all the other 98 hostages back in Israel.”
In London, Tottenham and Arsenal fans united during the North London Derby to honor Damari, releasing yellow balloons and chanting, “She’s one of our own, Emily Damari, bring her home.”
Steinbrecher, a 31-year-old veterinary nurse, was kidnapped from her Kibbutz Kfar Aza home on the same day. Before being taken, she managed to send a final voice message to her family: “They’ve got me, they’ve got me.” Her family was particularly concerned about her access to medication during captivity. A video released in January showed Steinbrecher alive but apparently in poor health.
Gonen, 24, was taken from the Nova Music Festival after being shot. Her mother, Meirav, was on the phone with her as terrorists attacked. A released hostage later confirmed Gonen’s condition as dire, noting severe injuries to her hand. Despite the ordeal, her family remained hopeful, with her father describing her as “a magical girl, all heart, all love.”
