Iran Signals Readiness To End Nuclear Standoff, Calls for Dialogue in Ukraine

By The Media Line Staff

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced at the United Nations General Assembly that Iran was ready to resolve its long-standing nuclear dispute with the West. During his speech on Tuesday, Pezeshkian expressed a willingness to re-engage with the 2015 nuclear agreement, provided that all commitments are honored. He also called for an immediate cease-fire in both the Israel-Hamas conflict and the war in Ukraine.

“We are ready to engage with participants of the 2015 nuclear deal,” Pezeshkian stated, adding that if the deal is fully implemented, further dialogue could follow. The 2015 agreement, which limited Iran’s uranium enrichment and stockpiles, was abandoned by then-US President Donald Trump in 2018, leading to renewed sanctions. Efforts to revive the deal have so far been unsuccessful.

Pezeshkian also criticized Israel, accusing it of committing “genocide in Gaza” and urged the international community to intervene.

Addressing the Ukraine conflict, Pezeshkian called for an end to the war through diplomacy, reiterating Iran’s opposition to military conflict. Iran has strengthened its relationship with Russia since the war began, with the two countries preparing to sign a major cooperation agreement.
